What is a personal .ie domain name?

A .IE Personal Domain Name is a .ie web address derived from your own name e.g.JohnSmith.ie. Up until now there were restrictions on who could register their own personal domain name. From October 31st anyone can register their own personal domain name, but the uptake will be fast and you may lose your domain name if you don’t act NOW.

Why is a personal .ie domain name is important?

  • It associates your personal name with Ireland, it is more personal than an anonymous .com address
  • It is the perfect address for a personal web site or blog or business site associated with your name
  • It allows you to have a personalised e-mail address on your own domain
  • It protects your name on the Internet. You get to decide what is associated with your name.
  • You can register your child’s name and save it for them for future use. Once you have registered your domain name, no one else can have it unless you allow the domain to lapse.

What Supporting Documentation do I need to register my personal domain name?

Supporting documentation can be any of the following;

  • Irish passport
  • Irish driver's licence
  • Irish revenue / social welfare document showing PPS number
  • Irish birth certificate
  • Irish marriage certificate
  • Irish utility bill (e.g: Eircom, Vodafone, O2, Meteor, 3 (bill pay phones only), ESB, Airtricity, Bord Gais, Sky, NTL, Chorus.

IMPORTANT: The name in the document supplied must match exactly the domain name applied for e.g. a document showing Mr. John Smith is not acceptable if the domain name required is johnnysmith.ie.

How do I register my personal domain name?

The Irish Domain Registry encourages all applicants for .ie domain names to register their domain through one of the official .ie Resellers. Kildare Web Services is an official .ie reseller. We will register your personal .ie domain name for you on October 31st 2007 but first you need to pre-register with us. To pre-register with us, fill in our form, send us your supporting documentation, and make a payment for your chosen package by sending a cheque or paying online at www.kildare.ie/pay.

Are there any terms or conditions I should be aware of?

Yes, here are our Terms & Conditions:

  • Registrations will be on a first come first served basis.
  • All forms, payment,and documentation must reach us by Monday 29th October at 5pm.
  • All pre-registrations will be date stamped, and if we receive two of the same name, we will register the one we receive first.
  • Kildare Web Services will apply for registration of your domain name on 31st October 2007 and will notify you shortly after regarding your registration.
  • Payments for unsuccessful registrations will be refunded. By pre-registering now, you will have the best chance of securing your chosen domain name. It is expected that a huge number of .ie Personal Domains will be registered on October 31st.
  • The rules of application are defined by the Irish Domain Registry and their decision in relation to an application is final.
  • A holding page consists of one page with your name or company name, address and contact details with one image or graphic header. The image for the holding page must be supplied to Kildare Web Services. Design work on the holding page, if required, is extra.
